Consultation on a Timber Marketing Plan for the period 2016-2021

Through this consultation we are seeking your views and opinions on proposals to develop our Timber Marketing Plan (TMP) for the period 2016-2021.

The Timber Marketing Plan is concerned with the harvesting and marketing of timber from the Welsh Government Woodland Estate, which we are responsible for managing.

The timber we produce contributes millions of pounds to the Welsh economy and directly supports thousands of jobs but we need to deliver more than just commercial gain from our forest management activities. The Welsh Government Woodland Estate (WGWE) is managed in accordance with the principle of sustainable forest management and we also work hard to improve habitats for woodland species, improve the water quality of wooded catchments, and provide attractive places for recreation and community involvement.  Our ability to achieve these wider objectives is influenced by our timber harvesting and marketing operations.

We would like your views on whether our proposals set the right direction for our timber harvesting and marketing operations over the next five years. We want to know what you think about the current plan, the areas that are important to you and how we should be moving forward.

Publishing our consultation results

We have produced a Summary Report of Public Consultation Responses. This report summarises the responses to the formal public consultation exercise and how we are responding to the comments and feedback received. It is now likely that we will publish a one year Interim Timber Marketing Statement for 2016-17, and then a five year Timber Marketing Plan for the period 2017-22. We would like to thank everyone who took the time to respond to the consultation.
