Who can legally harvest cockles in the Dee Estuary

Commercial harvesters must have a licence to gather cockles. 

Renewing your Dee Estuary cockle licence

Commercial harvesters will need to renew their licence each year.

We will contact each licence holder individually to invite you to renew.

Members of the public

Members of the public can take up to 5kg of cockles a day for personal consumption when the cockle beds are open.

Cockle beds are open:

  • Between 1 July and 31 December
  • Between Monday and Saturday only
  • During daylight hours only
