Our flood risk management plans

Under the Flood Risk Regulations 2009, Natural Resources Wales produced flood risk management plans (FRMPs) at the river basin district scale by 22 December 2015. We produced three FRMPs covering Wales: the Severn; the Dee; and the Western Wales. The Severn and the Dee FRMPs were produced jointly with the Environment Agency in England. In Wales, these FRMPs cover flood risk from main rivers, reservoirs and the sea.

The FRMPs identify the conclusions of what is at risk of flooding alongside the objectives and measures that we propose to manage the risk of flooding to people, the environment and economic activity across Wales. The plans cover a 6 year period from December 2015 to December 2021.

Our updated flood risk management plan

We are currently working to produce an updated FRMP that covers all of Wales. Progress on our updated FRMP has been delayed as a result of the February 2020 flooding that was followed up by Covid-19. It is anticipated that our updated FRMP will be ready for consultation in Spring 2022.

National Flood Hazard and Risk maps

The National Flood Hazard and Risk maps show flood extent, depths, velocities and hazard. It doesn't have any official status for planning purposes.

The national flood hazard and risk maps are used to inform the creation of Flood Risk Management plans across Wales and comply with the Flood Risk Regulations (2009) and the EU Directive (2007/60/EC).
