Progress updates on our Gwydir reservoirs safety work

November 2019 update

After the collapse of Dawnus Construction Ltd in March 2019, NRW appointed a new contractor, William Hughes Civil Engineering Ltd to complete the reservoir safety works at Llyn Cyfty, Llyn Goddionduon and Llyn Sarnau.

Works at all three reservoirs is nearing completion and the contractor is planning to remove their cabins and fencing at Cyfty South before Christmas. The hard-standing area will be reinstated but will be used again in Spring 2020 by a new contractor who will finish the safety works to Llyn Tynymynydd.

In the meantime we will upgrade local forest roads and carry out pre-planned harvesting activities. We will continue to work closely with stakeholders to make sure theĀ  works are planned and delivered without disruption.

Works at Llyn Tynymynydd are due to start in Spring 2020 and will involve the buttressing of embankments and construction of a new rock spillway with improved operational access. We expect these works to last five months and we will give an update in January once our new contractor is appointed.
