Working pattern:

Minimum 1 day a week.  Flexibility would be beneficial depending on the work required   

Location:

North Wales - within the Dee catchment preferred. 

Welsh Language:

This placement will be delivered through the medium of English although many team members are Welsh speakers. 

Placement purpose:

You will assist LIFEDeeRiver project officers in delivery of objectives under the LIFEDeeRiver programme. 

Key placement tasks:

Assist monitoring officer in gathering and evaluating data to demonstrate impacts of interventions.

Assist River Restoration officers in drawing up plans, applying for permissions/licences and site management during work.

Key placement qualifications or knowledge:

Full UK driving licence (an NRW vehicle will be available, but it would be beneficial if they had business insurance on their own vehicle.  Mileage rates inline with HMRC will be paid if personal vehicle used for work purposes)

Ability to swim essential - working in water training will be required which involves practical emergency rescue training in the river. 

What you will do:

Work will include (but not limited to):

  • Electric fishing surveys
  • Assist in data collection via acoustic tagging of fish
  • Habitat surveys
  • Assisting in writing of Site Management Plans, WFD Assessments, Flood Risk Activity Permits and other licences as required
  • assist with comms and photographing interventions
  • Assisting with overseeing contractors on site during work on interventions (fencing/soft bank revetment/tree planting, weir removal)

Some lone working will be required – this will be managed through a buddy system with another member of staff to ensure safety.

Full training will be provided.

Who you will be working with

You will be working with the LIFEDeeRiver team across all disciplines of the project.  Depending on current project work this will include River Restoration Officers, Land Management Officers, Monitoring Officer, Comms Officer. 

There may be potential to work with other teams within NRW if the opportunity arises. 

Where you will be working

You will be working across the Dee catchment on all aspects of the project.  There may be opportunities to work in other areas to gain valuable knowledge and expertise. 

What knowledge and skills you need

The LIFEDeeRiver team is an enthusiastic and passionate team, and this is the main attribute required for this role! 

A desire to learn and be able to put into practise what you have learnt is also key.  Practical experience beneficial, but not essential. 

You will need to be a team player and great communicator.
