Job description

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Integrated Workforce team in North-West Wales.

You will join a team that are passionate about what they do. You’ll help to deliver maintenance and capital works on NRW assets. These assets include flood risk assets like flood embankments, and you’ll be helping to keep the rivers in North-West Wales free of obstructions that can increase the risk of flooding. You’ll also work on other assets managed by NRW in forests and Nature Reserves.

As part of the team, you’ll take part in an incident response standby rota and provide out of hours cover.  

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities include:

  • You will provide a manual labour service for the maintenance of NRW assets which include flood risk assets and NRW managed land.
  • You will have the ability to operate equipment such as hand-held tools which may include chainsaws.
  • You will have the ability to operate as a banksman and slinger/signaller.
  • You will have the ability to understand technical and utility plans and operate in compliance with the Construction Design and Management Regulations.
  • You will be a user of small plant and machinery i.e. Aebi/Reform, pedestrian mowers, woodchippers etc.
  • Required to take part in incident response activities

Qualifications, experience and knowledge

Knowledge and experience of the following: 

  1. Relevant Operators licences for tools, machinery and plant or work towards achieving.
  2. IOSH Working Safely.
  3. ICT competence. (basic level)
  4. Emergency First Aid +F.
  5. Previous forestry, construction, agricultural, environmental or plant operators experience is desirable.
  6. This is a physically demanding role so reasonable levels of fitness are required.  
  7. Confident working in and near water.
  8. Basic literacy and numeracy skills are required for the role. GCSE grade C (or equivalent) in English and Maths are essential.  
  9. Full UK driving licence ideally to include cat B + E (trailer tow).

Welsh language requirements

Essential - Level 3 Able to communicate with confidence in Welsh in some work situations.

Essential Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrates the ability and willingness to attain NVQ Level 2 within 1 – 2 years of appointment. 
  • Previous relevant practical experience is desirable, but not essential; gained through an apprenticeship or similar work in another environment.
  • Reasonable literacy, numerical and communication skills.

Evaluation of Information

  • Ability to record work activities accurately.
  • Ability to follow H&S instructions and understand risk, is essential.

Communication and Relationships with Others

  • Able to communicate with colleagues and with the general public and third parties, providing information, asking questions or answering basic queries, politely and courteously.
  • Ability to complete basic written documents and records that may need to be reviewed and signed off by others.

Responsibility for Resources

  • Post holders will be responsible for the tools and equipment used out in the field to carry out their role. This may include vehicles and/ or large machinery, which may be of high value.
  • The post holder would be expected to take personal responsibility for their safe and legal use and keeping.
