Freedom of Information
Access to information
The Freedom of Information Act (FOI) and Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) give you the right to request access to unpublished information held by Natural Resources Wales, unless a specified exemption applies.
Before you make a request, please check our publication scheme to see if we have already published the information you are seeking.
You can view a list of previous FOIs we've responded to on our disclosure log.
Open Data
Open data is data which is freely available for everyone to use and republish as they wish, without restrictions from copyright, patents or other mechanisms of control.
Making a request for information
You can make a request for information from us by e-mail, fax or letter.
- By telephone: 0300 065 3000 and ask to speak to an Access to Information Officer
- By email: accesstoinformationteam@naturalresourceswales.gov.uk
Please give us as much details as possible, including the following details:
- Your full name and contact details (address and/or e-mail address)
- Details of the information or documents you would like access to
- Your preferred method of communication (letter, e-mail etc)
If you want to see any information that we might hold about you, please see how to request information we hold about you.
Tips for making a successful request
To help us respond promptly to your request, we recommend checking the guidance on Information Commissioner and Gov.uk about making successful freedom of information requests.
It may be helpful to include a telephone contact number, in case we need to clarify your information needs and enquire about accessibility requirements.
What happens next?
Once you have submitted a request, we are obliged to respond as soon as possible and within 20 working days.
In some limited circumstances, and in complex cases, this timescale may be extended. If this is the case, we will let you know as soon as possible and tell you also when we anticipate being able to respond to your request.
Will I always get all the information I ask for?
Some information may not be given to you if it qualifies as an FOI exemption or as an EIR exception. This means that the item of information you are requesting cannot be disclosed. This might be because it would unfair to reveal personal details about somebody else, for example.
Charges for information
Our schedule of charges sets out our charges for providing you with information under the Freedom of Information Act, the Environmental Information Regulations and the Data Protection Act 1998.
