Purpose

The Wales Water Management Forum (WWMF) provides an opportunity for the forum's membership organisations to share evidence and explore opportunities for working together to achieve the sustainable management of water in Wales - from source to sea.

The WWMF also explores opportunities to develop, support and communicate shared messages and recommendations on the sustainable management of natural resources.

WWMF will work with the Wales Land Management Forum, Wales Fisheries Forum and the Wales Marine Advisory and Action Group (WMAAG). The forums and/or chairs will meet as required.

Membership

All WWMF organisations represent members who are directly involved in water management. Membership will be reviewed and agreed by members of the forum. This may include:

  • Business and Industry
  • Fisheries
  • Some Environmental NGOs
  • Welsh Local Government Association representing Local Authorities
  • National Parks
  • Coal Authority
  • Agriculture
  • Forestry
  • Water companies
  • Land management
  • Recreation
  • Marine
  • Welsh Government
  • Environment Agency
  • Navigation

Additional members will include other organisations considered necessary and agreed by the forum. This may include members for emerging issues that affect water. Any requests to join the WWMF (submitted by other water management organisations and received via the Chair) will be discussed at the next full forum meeting.

Meetings

All WWMF meetings will be chaired by our board member Professor Steve Ormerod, and will include the relevant policy and operational leads. We will be represented by an executive director or leadership group member.

Meetings will be convened as necessary rather than according to a fixed timetable. There will be a minimum of two meetings a year. Members can contact the secretariat with requests to discuss particular issues, although the timing of all meetings will be at the Chair’s discretion.

All participants are expected to share the outcomes of WWMF discussions with their parent organisations, relevant boards or wider sectors and to reflect at subsequent meetings.
