Who can legally harvest cockles in the Burry Inlet

Commercial harvesters

Commercial harvesters must have a licence from us to gather cockles in the Burry Inlet.

The waiting list is closed to new applicants.

If the waiting list opens we will post information on our website.

Members of the public

Members of the public can take up to 8kg of cockles a day for personal consumption only. You are not allowed to sell the cockles or process them for sale.

You can gather cockles east of the area between Llanrhidian Pill in the south and Llanelli Dock in the north.

Renewing your Burry Inlet cockle licence

Commercial harvesters will need to renew their licence each year, before 1 April.

We will contact each licence holder individually to invite you to renew.
