As an organisation we support flexible working. This role allows hybrid working (a mix of home and office working) and a working pattern suitable for you can be discussed on appointment if you are successful.
You will be contracted to the nearest NRW office to your home, of which you will be required to attend for regular meetings, training and for one-to-one meetings with your manager. These will be planned in advance.
Job description
This is an exciting opportunity to be an important member of the Natural Resources Wales Commercial Performance team, who are a relatively new team responsible for the continued improvement and assurance of the Commercial business unit.
This vital advisor role is responsible for ensuring adherence to the proscribed policies, regulations, and standards in relation to our commercial activities. Through ongoing monitoring, compliance checking and feedback, as well as by providing compliance advice to other members of the team, you will help NRW Commercial provide value for money, offer fair and transparent processes, and benefit the ongoing management of the estate for the people of Wales.
Responsibility also includes leading on the management of the new Commercial Portfolio Database and Dashboard, which helps ensure key management information on the programmes and projects being delivered by the Commercial team are being reported to senior managers in a timely and accurate way.
The role will cover all aspects of our commercial business but in the first instance will focus on our Timber Sales and Marketing activities.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities include:
- Provide the Senior Advisor with scrutinised compliance data and information that places trust and confidence in the governance standards and Commercial Assurance Framework. To do this, the post holder must apply their analytical skills to understand the standards in the first place and identify interdependencies, conflicts and/or duplication as part of determining the level of compliance.
- Support effective change management and associated continuous improvement to support the effective delivery of the Commercial Governance Framework, including selling the reasons for change, ensuring awareness of the needs for good governance and compliance, influencing them to support and adopt processes and adapt their activities in line with business needs.
- Build and maintain influential and collaborative relationships with internal customers. For example, help to develop, review and improve Commercial governance arrangements (including technical documentation), and guide the Timber Sales team through the development and implementation of these to enable consistent understanding and application in the business to enable effective and compliant service provision.
- Assist NRW’s compliance programme with the Welsh Government’s transparency agenda, the Cabinet Office Spending Restrictions, and any other relevant policy obligation.
- Help maintain the Commercial risk registers, issue logs and the change management process, and support the need to capture evidence trails.
- Support the smooth running of the Commercial Performance team.
Qualifications, experience and knowledge
Knowledge and experience of the following:
Essential:
- Experience of critically analysing and interpreting complex data and translating and presenting that information in a way that others can understand, particularly in relation to identifying associated risks
- Understanding of the importance of compliance and the role of the three lines model
- Understanding of good governance concepts and techniques, to practitioner level, including the management of risks and issues.
- Experience of facilitating collaborative working to achieve set goals
- Transferrable experience of maintaining systems and good record keeping
Desired:
- Experience using PowerBI
- Experience and knowledge of a commercial function in a diverse public or private sector organisation.
Welsh language requirements
Essential Level 1 – able to pronounce Welsh and use basic phrases
