Job description

We’re looking for an enthusiastic individual to join the Visitor Centre Team at Ynyslas. In this role you will help to sustain Wales’s natural heritage so that everyone can enjoy and benefit from it. You will do this by helping to manage the Dyfi National Nature Reserve as part of the Operations Team – Mid. You will assist in the day to day running of the Ynyslas Visitor Centre and support the work of colleagues to promote and protect the Reserve (250,000 visitors annually)
Working hours will respond to business needs. On average 37 hours a week over 5 days on a rota basis between 8am and 6pm, 7 days a week including bank holidays and weekends. On occasions you may be required to work evenings. A start date of 1 April 2023 is required.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include to:
- Be the first point of contact for visitors providing orientation and information concerning the attractions and activities on offer both in person, phone and online.
- Act as first point of contact for service providers, business partners, concessionaries and NRW Staff to ensure the smooth running of the attraction.
- Undertake Health & Safety and facility checks at the visitor centre, car park and reserve attraction. Your work will include light maintenance and some physical activity in relation to carrying equipment and materials.
- Promote responsible access by the public and discourage abuse of the natural environment.
- Support the Visitor Centre Officer - assist in organising, planning and delivery of service and events with the objectives of enabling more people to enjoy the benefits of access to the natural environment, develop new markets and promote a better understanding of the natural resource.
- Act as First Aid provider as necessary.
- Assist in developing the retail experience and generating car park revenue by following cash handling procedures in the collection and banking of parking charges, season tickets and shop revenue.
- Ensure that food hygiene, allergen and health and safety policies and practices are adhered to.
- Ensure that appropriate signage is displayed in all public areas to support the safety of the general public, promote the Visitor Centre and its surrounding attractions, and to protect the Nature Reserve
Qualifications, experience and knowledge
You will be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of the following:
- Professional qualification in customer care, events or retail – desirable.
- Experience and ability to use Microsoft applications, online and social media platforms.
Welsh language requirements
Essential: Level 3 – Able to communicate with confidence in Welsh in some work situations.
