As an organisation we support flexible working. This role allows hybrid working (a mix of home and office working) and a working pattern suitable for you can be discussed on appointment if you are successful.

You will be contracted to the nearest NRW office to your home, of which you will be required to attend for regular meetings, training and for one-to-one meetings with your manager. These will be planned in advance.

Job description

Water quality is of significant stakeholder interest at present. The integrated Water Planning team takes a holistic view of management of the water environment. The successful candidate will play a critical role in bringing various activities together across the Sustainable Water Group and also provide a focus for internal and external communications. This will include developing communication material, arranging for translation and website services, supporting governance groups, and developing other areas of work as required. A background in water management is preferable and good evidence analysis skills important. The post involves working across a variety of staff across NRW requiring good communication.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities include:

  • Support the development of technical assessments, drawing on a range of information and data sources.
  • Support the preparation of material to inform NRW Policy and Guidance documents, and statutory advice to WG and other bodies in Wales.
  • Support the provision of regular accurate information to managers on progress, to adapt and ensure delivery of work to time and cost.
  • Process queries relating to Integrated Water Planning from internal teams, Welsh Government and customers, and take advice from operational and regulatory staff to ensure resolution.
  • Provide secretariat support to relevant governance groups or meetings with Welsh Government and sectors.
  • Support engagement with sectors, partners, WG, Environment Agency, SEPA and NIEA, and other Environment bodies in the UK; and be the lead point of contact for customer queries.
  • Contribute to task and finish groups, commissioned through the Business Boards, to prepare defined products as required.
  • Collaborate with the Team Leader to develop and deliver an agreed Personal Development Plan.

Qualifications, experience and knowledge

Knowledge and experience of the following: 

  1. Knowledge of: Welsh, UK and EU legislation related to WFD; Welsh, UK Government policy drivers in WFD; and the issues and opportunities in Wales.
  2. Experience of: technical analysis and interpretation of a range of environmental information and data and analysing large data sets.
  3. Working with/in water companies, local authorities, eNGOs, National Parks.
  4. Working in a programme and project management environment with Project Management experience and/or qualifications.
  5. Working towards professional membership or aspiration to become a professional member of a relevant institution.
  6. Share your knowledge and expertise to help solve problems, supporting all Heads of Business in EPP as required.

Welsh language requirements

Essential Level 1 – Able to pronounce Welsh and use basic phrases

  • The post holder will have specialist technical knowledge, good communication, literacy and IT skills as well as good organisational and planning skills.

Evaluation of Information

  • Ability to interpret and understand a range of information including technical data, extracting key points and principles upon which they will provide the building blocks for the development of internal policy, strategy and plans.
  • Ability to produce documents with technical/specialist content which may require some original thought, creativity and understanding.

  • The post holder’s work will extend beyond the immediate team and will inform and influence the work of others.

Communication and Relationships with Others

  • Relationships and communication will be across a range of people and functions and will be of both an internal and external nature.
  • The post holder will be able to communicate articulate matters relating to policy, strategy and plans, which may encompass leading programmes of work, providing technical support and guidance to the team.
  • The post holder will be able to produce written documentation in relation to policy and strategy which will require good written skills. They will have the ability to undertake research, distil information and to translate this into meaningful policy advice.
